When it Comes Time to Retire, Retire to Something, Not Away From Something
by Bob Thompson
When a person retires to get away from stress or other unpleasant situation it is not a planned career change, it is an escape. And once the escape is successfully executed the retiree is often at a loss for something to do. But retiring to pursue another stage in one’s career is a plan. And even if the plan doesn’t work out, it still was a plan and can be replaced with another plan. A retiree with a plan or purpose tends to be happier and more fulfilled than someone who has no plan for the future – other than to escape what he/she is doing.
